AGENCY & MANAGEMENT UPDATES: Creative Artists Agency Hires Latina Magazine Founder Christy Haubegger

BEVERLY HILLS, CA- Creative Artists Agency (CAA) announced that Christy Haubegger, visionary founder and former CEO and publisher of the highly successful Latina magazine, has joined CAA to provide clients expert insight on Hispanic-related initiatives.

Numbering 37 million, and increasing nearly 60% in the last decade, the U.S. Hispanic market is the nation's fastest-growing consumer market. Haubegger will offer CAA Marketing clients expertise in this area, and on building effective entertainment marketing programs targeted to this audience. Haubegger will also provide insight to CAA's motion picture, television and music clients in order to help movies, shows, or tours better appeal to a broad and changing audience.

Frustrated by a lack of Hispanic role models in the popular media, the then 28-year-old Stanford Law School graduate founded the glossy lifestyle magazine Latina in 1996 to appeal to Hispanic-American women like herself. The magazine has reached 250,000 in circulation, was recognized two years in a row on Adweek's "Hot List," and counts some of the world's largest marketers among its advertisers. Haubegger remains a member of the Board for Latina Media Ventures, Latina's parent company.

"Christy is an influential leader in the Hispanic community and a prominent entrepreneur who created an important publication that speaks to and empowers this community," explained CAA President Richard Lovett. "No one better understands and appreciates the trends, values and desires of the Hispanic market. Our clients are fortunate to benefit from Christy's expertise and we are thrilled she has joined CAA."

Haubegger has received numerous accolades and recognition for her pioneering work in marketing and media. She has been recognized as one of Advertising Age's "Women to Watch" and was inducted into the American Advertising Federation Hall of Achievement for her work in raising the awareness and understanding of the U.S. Hispanic market. In January 2001, Newsweek named her one of the "Women of the New Century." She has been interviewed and profiled by a number of major media outlets including the Today Show, NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, The New York Times, CNN and others.

She recently brought her media and marketing expertise to the big screen, having served as Associate Producer on Fox 2000's "Chasing Papi" (a Hispanic-themed romantic comedy scheduled for release in April of this year), and consultant to producer and director James L. Brooks on an upcoming feature film.

"There is a highly entrepreneurial spirit in the way CAA's agents and executives mine the integrated and enormous resources of the agency to constantly bring fresh ideas to clients," said Haubegger. "I look forward to complementing those resources."

Paradise Artists Creates Marketing/DVD Division

Paradise Artists is creating a music marketing/DVD catalog division to be headed by John Lappen, a veteran music industry executive with 16 years experience in catalog marketing and licensing. Lappen will place songs from the Paradise catalog in film and television productions and advertising campaigns, utilize the catalog to develop audio and DVD projects to include multi-and single artist compilations, develop content for the Paradise Radio website, and create and implement multimedia campaigns for the catalog and artist roster.

"It's exciting to join and be a part of the Paradise artists team, one of the most respected talent booking firms in the industry," says Lappen. "It's a great opportunity for us to utilize the catalog assets that Paradise represents."

Prior to joining Paradise Artists, Lappen was founder/president of Lappen Enterprises, Inc., an entertainment company started in 1995 that provided entertainment and corporate clients services including audio and DVD content development for compilations and soundtracks, music supervision, non-traditional retail marketing and distribution, music licensing and clearance, song plugging for film/television and advertising productions and catalog A&R. A sampling of clients included NBC-TV, Best Buy, American Express, The Man Show, Comedy Central, Salt Lake City Olympic Committee and numerous record labels and film companies.

Lappen also co-owned a record label MudSlide Entertainment from 1995-99. He was also a senior vice president of special markets at Priority Records.
