Jari Kurri is a Finnish professional ice hockey player. A right winger, he played in the National Hockey League (NHL), and spent most of his career with the Edmonton Oilers. In 2001, he was noted as being the first Finnish-born hockey player inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

He is the son of Maija-Liisa and Vilho Kurri. He is married to Vanessa (Forsman) Kurri, who was Miss Finland. He has two children with his former wife Tiina; and four children with Vanessa.

Jari’s paternal grandfather was named Pekka Kurri.

Jari’s maternal grandmother was Antti Viljam Ahvensalmi (the son of Kustaa/Gustaf Ahvensalmi and Sofia Loviisa Karvonen). Antti was born in Posio. Kustaa was the son of Juho Juhonpoika/Johan Johansson Ahvensalmi and Agneta Karlsdotter/Kallentytär Hirsivaara Kaukua. Sofia was the daughter of Abram Fredrik Posio and Anna Liisa Lämsä Vaarala.

Jari’s maternal grandmother was Saima Karppinen (the daughter of Pekka Sakarinpoika Karppinen and Reeta Matilda Jurmu). Saima was born in Kuusamo. Pekka was the son of Sakari/Zacharias Heikinpoika/Henricksson Karppinen and Anna Kaisa Pekantytär Ohtonen. Reeta was the daughter of Henrik/Heikki Gustaf/Kustaa Jurmu and Brita Stina Kielo Vasala.
