Short-notice legend Alexander Volkanovski teases backup spot at UFC 308 for Ilia Topuria vs. M

Alexander Volkanovski has not had a good track record in short-notice fights. However, the former featherweight champion is ready to set things straight this October. The title fight between Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway will happen at UFC 308 in October. As such, the former champion has some ideas.

Alexander Volkanovski recently sat down to have a conversation with Submission Radio YT Channel. During the interview, the former featherweight champion hinted that he might be ready to step in as a backup fighter for the potential bout between Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway.

If a short notice ever does come up, I know people think I'm mad, but last time, I wasn't the guy I usually am where I'm in the gym in really good nick. But from here, moving forward, I will be. So, if an opportunity comes like that and it's the right fight, I'll be in pretty good nick and I'll hold myself to that.

The former champion wants to stay close to the title picture and capitalize on any chance to reclaim his status in the featherweight division.

Volkanovski mentioned that he intended to stay in peak physical condition to be prepared for such opportunities. Especially after his experience with short-notice fights in the past. The last time Alexander Volkanovski took a short-notice fight was at UFC 294.

The Aussie legend stepped in on just 11 days’ notice to face Islam Makhachev in a rematch for the UFC lightweight championship. Makhachev won by knockout in the first round, marking Volkanovski’s first knockout loss in the UFC. Nevertheless, Volk hopes for a change in fortune this time around.

Alexander Volkanovski talks about Dan Hooker vs. Mateusz Gamrot matchup at UFC 305

UFC 305 is a highly anticipated showdown that will be headlined by Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis. On the undercard is Adesanya’s teammate from City Kickboxing, Dan Hooker, fighting top lightweight contender Mateusz Gamrot

Former featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski recently did a breakdown of the upcoming UFC 305 fight card. In that video on his YouTube channel, Volkanovski made some interesting comments on the Hooker vs Gamrot matchup.

Look, Dan Hooker is hard to take down. Dan Hooker is no joke when it comes to wrestling defense and then submissions as you’re trying to take him down. You’ve seen the work Dan Hooker can do.

The former champion complimented ‘The Hangman’ that he probably looked better now than he did before. Volkanovski continued to state that Gamrot would likely be more aggressive with the wrestling. However, the Australian predicted that Hooker had got incredible timing for the takedown defense and might find the finish.
